About the Role

This is a six-month fixed-term opportunity to join the City of Yarra's ERP Program at a critical phase of delivery. As the Payroll Systems Specialist, you'll be embedded in a high-performing program team and will bridge expert payroll knowledge with the configuration and delivery of Council's new Technology One SaaS ERP solution.

Reporting to the Product Owner, you'll make day-to-day payroll design decisions, lead payroll-specific testing and data migration activities, and partner with the HRIS Systems Specialist, internal SMEs, and external vendors (Technology One and Atturra) to ensure Council's payroll obligations are accurately reflected in TechOne. You'll also have the opportunity to review current payroll practices and shape recommendations that improve how Council operates within the new system.

We're proud to offer flexible working, strong development pathways, and a culture that prioritises wellbeing, inclusion and connection. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll systems professional looking to play a visible, hands-on role in a major ERP transformation, with exposure to senior leaders and the chance to leave a lasting legacy on Council's payroll capability.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced payroll systems professional with deep knowledge of Australian payroll compliance — including the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, modern award interpretation, and EBA obligations — and proven experience configuring and operating the Technology One platform (Payroll and/or HR modules).

You'll bring demonstrated capability across solution design, system testing (SIT and UAT), and data migration, ideally gained on a previous ERP implementation or major systems transition. Experience in local government or a similarly complex, award-based environment is highly regarded, as are professional certifications such as Australian Payroll Association or TechOne accreditation.

Day to day, you'll contribute to payroll module configuration, validate requirements against current practice, lead payroll-specific testing, partner with the Data Migration and Reporting streams, support training and change activities, and document improvement recommendations for post-implementation consideration.

Yarra City Council is a progressive and inclusive organisation, proud of our diverse culture and committed to continually improving services for our community.
