Yarra City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Crew Leader to join our Roads Services team. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality, efficient, and community-focused road and infrastructure maintenance services.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Council’s in-house Road Services staff, ensuring works are completed to a high standard and in a safe manner. The role includes overseeing infrastructure maintenance activities such as road repairs, footpath reinstatement, street furniture and signage repairs—with a particular emphasis on bluestone construction and restoration, a key feature of Yarra’s streetscapes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage Council’s in-house road maintenance crew, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and accountability
- Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities including asphalting, concreting, and bluestone works, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Operate and manage plant and equipment, including conducting safety and security inspections
- Ensure timely response to maintenance requests under Council’s Road Management Plan
- Provide on-the-job training and support to team members
Skills and Experience:
- Strong background in civil construction, particularly in asphalt and concrete works
- Experience in bluestone repair and reinstatement will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated leadership in supervising work crews within a municipal or civil maintenance environment
- Competency in operating heavy mechanical equipment (Heavy Rigid license preferred)
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
