Senior Traffic and Transport Engineer

Infrastructure, Traffic & Civil Engineering

Temporary Full Time – 3 Months

Band 7 – Starting from $108,545.62 + super + RDO (RDO applicable for full-time 38 hours per week only)

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced Traffic and Transport Engineer who brings both technical depth and practical experience in delivering outcomes within a local government environment. You’ll be someone who thrives on solving complex transport challenges in urban settings and can balance strategic thinking with hands‑on project delivery.

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Exceptional technical writing skills, with a proven ability to prepare clear, concise and professionally structured reports that lead to well‑reasoned recommendations and informed decision‑making.
  • Leadership capability, including experience supervising technical staff and external consultants, providing guidance, quality oversight and fostering a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across the community, Councillors, internal departments, and external agencies to achieve practical and mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • A creative and solutions‑focused mindset, able to develop innovative design responses to complex traffic, transport and road safety issues within a constrained urban environment.
  • Deep knowledge and hands‑on experience in local area traffic management, road safety and project management, ideally gained within a local government setting where you’ve delivered projects from concept through to implementation.

We’re looking for someone who brings professional judgement, initiative, and a genuine commitment to improving transport outcomes for the community.
