Yarra Libraries is looking for a community-minded Customer Service Officer to join our team at Fitzroy Library. You’ll bring strong customer service skills, a calm and confident approach to people, and a genuine interest in helping others.
Our Fitzroy Branch is lively and social. It’s a space where everyone belongs, where most days are rewarding, some are unpredictable, and all are grounded in community.
Whether you come from a library, retail or hospitality background, what matters most is your ability to build rapport, stay composed in challenging situations and deliver welcoming, consistent service.
We are seeking an individual with a genuine enthusiasm for literature and books across a wide range of genres and formats. Whether your interests include graphic novels, cookery books, or popular fiction, we value a strong appreciation for the printed word and the ability to share that enthusiasm through excellent customer service.
Key aspects of this role include
-
Providing friendly, responsive customer service to a diverse community, including people with complex or challenging needs.
-
Performing rostered service shifts at the front desk and self-service areas, assisting with borrowing, technology help and general enquiries.
-
Supporting Libraries Victoria dispatch, sorting and routing books and materials across Yarra Libraries and the statewide network.
-
Keeping the library safe, tidy and inviting through shelving, shelf-reading and maintaining displays.
-
Assisting with programs and events that promote reading, learning and community connection.
- Sharing your love of reading and literacy by helping customers discover new books and resources that match their interests and encouraging a lifelong enjoyment of stories in all their forms.
You’ll spend around 80% of your time on the frontline or in dispatch, helping to keep our busy Fitzroy Branch running smoothly.
