Band 4 – Starting at $72,735 pa ($36.80 per hour) + Super + Fortnightly RDO (9-day fortnight)

About the Role

Yarra City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Construction Worker/Operator to join our Road Services Unit. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the condition and appearance of Council’s assets and infrastructure across the municipality.

The role will involve working across 3 key areas in council maintenance activities with a strong focus on street furniture and sign maintenance. This includes maintaining and repairing street furniture, undertaking repairs and replacement of street signage, and assisting with routine and reactive road and footpath maintenance works to ensure assets remain safe, functional, and compliant.

Key Responsibilities

Signage and Street Furniture Maintenance:

  • Inspect and maintain street signage and furniture for safety and appearance
  • Perform installation, cleaning, and repair works of street furniture.
  • Identify and program areas for ongoing maintenance

Civil Construction and Road Maintenance:

  • Assist with maintenance and repair of roads, footpaths, kerbs, channels, and drainage infrastructure
  • Support concreting, asphalting, and bluestone works
  • Operate heavy machinery for tasks including excavation, grading, levelling, material spreading, compaction, and site clean-up
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment usage
  • Assist with traffic management and site safety setups
  •  

Operational Duties:

  • Complete daily plant inspection sheets and activity logs
  • Report asset maintenance needs, street cleansing issues, or graffiti observed during duties
  • Ensure compliance with Council’s Road Management Plan response timeframe

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with the repair and maintenance of street furniture and street signs
  • Experience in civil construction, including asphalt, concrete, and bluestone works
  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, skid steers)
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and site protocols
  • HR licence and traffic management qualifications (preferred)
