Climate Emergency Engagement Officer

Temporary Part Time – 30.4 hours per week – ASAP until March 2026.

Band 6 – Starting from $94,850.87 (pro-rata) + super (RDO applicable for full-time 38 hours per week only)

About the Role

The City of Yarra has a proud history of environmental action and leadership. Yarra was one of the first local governments in the world to declare a climate emergency, recognising urgent action is required by all, and has recently developed our second Climate Emergency Plan.

The climate emergency is fast paced, growing global movement with local councils at the forefront of action. Yarra Council and the Sustainability Unit have a significant role to play in effectively engaging people and bringing them together to be active citizens creating change.

 What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a passionate candidate to our team who has relevant understanding and experience in developing and implementing community sustainability campaigns and projects, strong communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to undertake complex projects with many stakeholders.

To enable and support our community to act on the climate emergency we are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about community mobilisation and engagement to:

  • Lead the design and delivery of climate action and resilience programs including home electrification and energy retrofit programs.
  • Design and deliver communications and campaigns which support delivery of climate action programs.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, and community and delivery partners including participating in shared projects.
