Position Overview
As a Casual Early Childhood Teacher, you will provide a high-quality, inclusive Kindergarten program for children aged 3–5 years across our Council-managed centres. This role offers flexibility, the opportunity to work across multiple sites, and a chance to be part of a strong professional network committed to continuous improvement and excellence in early childhood education.
You will work collaboratively with a team of educators to implement play-based programs that promote learning, well-being, and development, while ensuring compliance with the National Quality Framework, Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, and Council’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Program
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate kindergarten program tailored to the needs and interests of children and families.
- Contribute to individual developmental records and learning portfolios.
- Collaborate with co-educators to create inclusive learning environments that promote equity, exploration, and wellbeing.
- Child Safety & Wellbeing
- Ensure a safe and nurturing environment that upholds the Child Safe Standards.
- Report and document incidents or concerns in line with Council procedures and legislation.
- Check and maintain equipment and physical environments to ensure safety.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with families.
- Support families’ participation in the program, and in quality improvement processes.
- Be responsive to diverse cultural perspectives and family practices.
Team Collaboration
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of educators and family services professionals.
- Provide guidance and support to diploma and certificate-level educators, students, and relief staff.
- Communicate effectively with Precinct Educational Leaders and other Council staff.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, observations, and programs as required by law.
- Follow all Council policies related to confidentiality, occupational health and safety, and risk management.
Selection Criteria
- Proven ability to deliver engaging, high-quality early childhood education programs that meet individual and group needs.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood education frameworks including VEYLDF, EYLF, and National Quality Standard.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive, collaborative relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Sound understanding of the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations and Victorian Kindergarten Funding requirements.
- Ability to work flexibly across centres and adapt quickly to new environments and teams.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Approved Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent as per ACECQA guidelines).
- Current VIT registration (provisional or full).
- First Aid, CPR, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis certification (ACECQA-approved).
- Valid Working with Children Check
- Ability to work flexibly across a variety of early years settings within the City of Yarra.
