P&C Business Partnering Lead

Temporary Full Time – Parental Leave Cover until July 2026

Band 8 – Starting at $ 122,746.59 + super + RDO (RDO applicable for full time 38 hours per week only)

The Business Partnering team forms part of the People & Culture Branch and contributes directly to the achievement of organisational goals for the Corporate Services and Transformation portfolio. The P&C Business Partnering Lead is required to pursue branch and portfolio goals through effective leadership of the Business Partnering Team and works closely with colleagues on key projects and organisation wide programs. Developing strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders is key to the success of this role!

Reporting to the Manager People & Culture, this role is responsible for strategic and operational leadership of Yarra’s Business Partnering and Industrial Relations functions; providing high level advice and guidance on: industrial relations, employee relations, performance management, employment contract and providing sound reporting on trends and analytics to inform strategic decision making, as well as developing sound policies, procedures, solutions and interventions.

Key responsibility areas include:

HR Leadership:

  • Effectively lead and coordinate the HR Services team by managing workload, creating meaningful key performance indicators with direct reports and providing opportunities for development of staff.

Technical Expertise

  • Provide high level advice, assistance and education to P&C BPs and leaders in the prevention and resolution of employee relations issues including policies and procedures, Industrial Relations, Employee Relations, performance management, job evaluations, compliance requirements, equal opportunity and discipline practices.

Employee/Industrial Relations

  • Provide leadership and guidance on the negotiation, implementation and maintenance of future Enterprise Bargaining Agreements to ensure outcomes which positively contribute to Council's competitiveness and performance.

Policy Development

  • Provide research, advice and recommendations on HR related operational, policy and operational matters and ensure the development and maintenance of policies and practices are reflective of contemporary, evidence-based people approaches and meets legislative requirements.

Workforce Analytics

  • Present People and Culture report to Executive on a quarterly basis, with subject matter expertise on HR advice on trends and recommendations, including areas of risks/opportunities.
