Band 6 - $94,850.87 - $103,260.68 + Super + Monthly RDO (RDO applicable to 38 hours per week only)

Yarra City Council is seeking an experienced AQF level 5 Arborist to join our Open Space Services team.

An exciting opportunity is waiting for you to play a key role in protecting and enhancing the City of Yarra's green assets!

Not only will you be responsible for providing technical expertise and advice on tree management and maintenance to internal and external customers and stakeholders, you will also coordinate tree maintenance programs and collaborate with tree maintenance contractors to effectively resolve tree-related conflict. You will investigate trees in a Planning and Local Laws context and provide appropriate recommendations on matters that affect trees in relation to developments.

We are looking for someone who has a proactive work ethic, is great at building strong working relationships, is a team player, pays great attention to detail, excellent time/record management skills and an ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment. In return you will have the opportunity to work on a very diverse range of interesting projects as they relate to Arboriculture and Open Space.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Arboriculture, Diploma or high level, National accreditation - AQF level 5, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to all aspects of vegetation clearance around electricity lines, road regulations, services e.g. water, gas and telecommunications, specifically Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations, Road Management Act and Code of Practice; Water Act, Telecommunications Act.
  • Demonstrated experience in current arboriculture maintenance techniques and industry best practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management.
  • Experience in writing clear, consistent and reasoned reports and assessments, appropriate permit conditions and preparing external correspondence.

Mandatory Pre-employment Requirements

  • Current Victorian driving licence.
  • An employment-based Working with Children check.
  • Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.


To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Previous experience working within local or state government departments.
  • Previous experience working with external service providers.
