Compliance and Animal Management Officer (Proactive)

Full Time Permeant 

NOTE: The core days for this position are Monday – Friday. The incumbent will be rostered on a no less than 6 week cycle involving (Penalty rates apply for Saturday & Sunday)

Band 5 - $80,410.06+ super + RDO (RDO applicable for full time 38 hours per week only)

The position sits within the Compliance and Parking Branch which provides a high level of customer service within the municipality, balancing the community needs and safety as a priority. You will work as part of a small team to provide high-level customer service in the delivery of Animal Management and Local Laws services to the community.  These services are provided both through the education of the community on responsible pet ownership and through administration of Council’s functions under the provisions of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and Council’s General Local Law to provide services that protect and enhance the safety, health and amenity of the municipality and its residents and visitors.

You will be required to:

  • Implementing community education programs focused on responsible pet ownership, including targeted campaigns addressing dog faeces. This will involve proactive engagement with pet owners within the community to promote responsible practices and prevent future issues.
  • Conduct targeted patrols in known hotspot areas and times, combined with proactive engagement with park users and businesses to address issues before they escalate. This may include working with local community groups and traders.
  • Instead of solely reacting to obstructions, work proactively with the residents and businesses to mitigate obstructions occurring on Council land through proactive inspection, blitz and other mechanisms.
  • Targeted education campaigns to promote proper waste disposal, and proactive monitoring of bin and litter compliance. This will involve working with the community to understand waste disposal habits and tailor programs for maximum effectiveness.
  • To proactively educate traders and waste collection companies regarding their responsibilities having respect to the City of Yarra Local Laws, the Planning and Environment Act, the Environment Protection Act 2017 and other relevant legislation and applicable policies.
  • Have a proven ability to conduct investigations, instigate appropriate enforcement action, conduct interviews of those involved and prepare briefs of evidence.

You will also be required to build and maintain a professional working relationship with all stakeholders and exhibit, respect, teamwork and innovation to improve productivity and efficiency whilst maintaining agreed standards in carrying out duties.
