Help support respectful partnerships and inclusive programs that celebrate culture and community.

Yarra City Council is seeking a Community Development Officer (Aboriginal Partnerships) to support its work with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities connected to Yarra. This role plays an important part in supporting the implementation of the Yana Ngargna Plan and associated actions that promote cultural heritage, community wellbeing, and Aboriginal self-determination.

You’ll be part of the Equity and Community Development Branch within the Community Strengthening Division – a values-driven team committed to promoting community health and wellbeing, supporting under-resourced groups, and building a fairer, more inclusive Yarra. The branch works collaboratively with community members, service providers, and other levels of government to deliver initiatives that support positive outcomes across our diverse municipality.

We’re looking for someone with strong community values and cultural understanding.

You will bring experience in community engagement, partnerships, or project delivery — particularly working with or alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities. You understand the importance of respectful relationships and are passionate about supporting programs that celebrate culture and improve access to services such as education, health, and training.

This role supports the delivery of initiatives and events that acknowledge the perspectives, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including contributing to Council’s NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week activities and facilitating community participation. You’ll work closely with the Principal Advisor Aboriginal Partnerships and others across Council to ensure initiatives are meaningful and well-coordinated.

Yarra City Council is a progressive organisation. We pride ourselves on our inclusive culture and development of staff. We aim to make a positive difference in people’s lives and continually improve service to the community.
