Development Engineer

Temporary - Full Time (Part-Time, Job-Share and School-Hours Flexibility will all be considered) - until January 2026 (16-Month duration)

Band 6 - $94,850.87- $103,260.68 + super + RDO (RDO applicable for full time 38 hours per week only)

An opportunity exists in the role of Development Engineer within the Civil Engineering team, a diverse and highly motivated team involved in major development, transport, utility and infrastructure projects within the municipality. The Civil Engineering team forms part of the Infrastructure Traffic and Civil Engineering Branch and is responsible for providing specialist engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related field and relevant experience with a proven track record of achievement within an engineering environment.
  • Proven ability in assessing and identifying design functionality and compliance issues with civil engineering drawings and stormwater drainage designs.
  • Well-developed understanding of the latest principles, theory and practice of Civil Engineering.
  • Proficient technical knowledge and ability to interpret plans, apply relevant legislation and negotiate fair outcomes that minimise the risk to Council.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise work, both on an individual and team basis, taking account of organisational and external constraints and opportunities in an environment of change and conflicting demands.
  • Experience and knowledge of road infrastructure construction and engineering project management.
  • Proven technical knowledge and ability to interpret and ensure compliance with the construction design drawings, traffic management plans, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to solve problems through negotiation, innovation and teamwork.
  • Ability to provide high level accurate specialist advice and instruction to stakeholders and promote awareness in respect to Council’s specifications regarding engineering planning referrals, review and assessment of major projects and significant developments
  • Understanding of the Subdivision Act, Road Management Act and consents, Council's Local Laws and the permits issued under them, Environment Protection Act and other relevant legislation. Sound understanding of the framework within which local government operates.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability negotiate positive outcomes, while managing a high workload. 
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy with the ability to write letters, reports and respond to correspondence as required.
  • Current Victorian driver's license.
