Safety and Works Improvement Project Officer

Temporary Full Time – until 28 February 2027 

Band 6 – $97,222.14 + super + RDO(RDO applicable for full-time 38 hours per week only)

Join us and play a key role in strengthening safety, process efficiency and service delivery across our Works teams.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Safety, Works & Improvement Projects Officer to support the development of a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement across council’s road crew operations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about safe work practices, operational excellence, and building capability within teams that deliver essential services for our community.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Review, develop, and improve SWMS, SOPs, plant risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Support supervisors and crews to embed safe, efficient, and compliant work practices.
  • Identify opportunities for improved workflows and greater service efficiency.
  • Coordinate training and ongoing capability development for roads staff.
  • Assist manage daily works programs
  • Build strong relationships across Works, OHS, and corporate teams to ensure alignment and continuous improvement.

This role contributes directly to our commitment to safe, high‑quality service delivery for the community.

What We’re Looking For

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Bring solid technical knowledge of OHS legislation, risk management and safe work systems.
  • Have experience within operations road services, infrastructure or civil works environments.
  • Are confident engaging with staff at all levels 
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Can learn new systems and processes quickly, and help others adapt to change.
  • Are proactive, collaborative and committed to delivering safe and effective outcomes for the organisation and community.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in OHS, operational works, compliance, or continuous improvement (council or similar industry preferred).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to educate and motivate diverse teams.
  • Competence in developing and reviewing safety documentation such as SWMS, SOPs, and risk assessments.
  • Relevant qualifications in OHS, continuous improvement, operations or similar (desirable).
